Rice bowls
Dishes with various ingredients on top of rice in a bowl are collectively referred to as donburi-mono or don (lit. "bowls"), and there are many variations. It is an inexpensive and popular favorite, and many chain restaurants serve beef, tempura, cutlets and so forth in this form. They are often found on the menus of noodle shops and izakaya (taverns), but there are also restaurants specializing in donburi dishes such as eel on rice.
